The Mining and Naturalistic Park of Gavorrano was founded in 1898 after the discovery of the mineral of limonite, from which the iron can be extracted, in the territory. From then a complex of mines was formed and they were connected together by digging some tunnels.
Today the mining basin is part of the Mining and Naturalistic Park of Gavorrano.
The Park consists of two main areas: the "Museum inside the Gallery", whose inside the phases about the extraction and processing of the minerals are exposed, and the "Ravi Marchi" area, where it is possible to see the machines used to process the pyrite.
Very interesting are also the so called "Theatre of the Rocks", that is an open structure placed inside a little cave, and the "Roma Pit", from where the extracting minerals of the close mine were came to light.
Today the Mining and Naturalistic Park of Gavorrano is joined to the "Technological and Archaeological Park of the Metallifere Hills of Grosseto".
